Throughout Johnny Depp’s iconic career, he has starred in a long list of movies that have become beloved by viewers around the world. Still, one of his films that was released more than 35 years ago, Edward Scissorhands, has connected with so many people that it has been recognized as his best. In perhaps the ultimate tribute to that film, it still means so much to fans that it is now a streaming hit decades after it was released.
‘Edward Scissorhands’ Is Currently a Hit on Disney+
On October 16, 2026, FlixPatrol revealed that the top 10 movies on Disney+ in the United States included several modern movies: Toy Story 5, Moana, and Moana 2. On the other hand, the oldest film to be included in the chart was Edward Scissorhands, which was the 7th most-viewed film in America on the immensely popular streaming service.
Not only did Edward Scissorhands become one of the Top 10 movies, but it also stayed in the ranking for several days after being featured at No. 8 for the two days prior to that. Additionally, as of October 16, the film had spent a total of 9 days in the top 10 in the United States. Since Edward Scissorhands was released on December 14, 1990, the fact that it has spent more than a week as one of the top titles in America all these years later says a lot about how great it is.
Who Ranked ‘Edward Scissorhands’ as the Best Johnny Depp Movie Ever?
In November 2025, ComicBook.com published its ranking of the “10 Best Johnny Depp Movies,” and it named Edward Scissorhands at No. 1. Of course, anyone who has paid attention to the legacy of the film will know that was far from the first time that it has been celebrated like that. Instead, it can easily be argued that the movie’s greatness has been indicated in a far more impactful way that is especially noteworthy this time of the year.
Over the last several decades, the Halloween season has regularly proven that Edward Scissorhands is Depp’s greatest film, since so many people want to bring the core character to life. While there were a few years when Captain Jack Sparrow was a Halloween staple as well, none of Depp’s characters have come even close to rivaling Edward’s pop culture longevity. That is because the character is visually fascinating, and his tale has made viewers’ hearts soar in the best way possible.
There are many people who helped make Edward Scissorhands a masterpiece. For example, the film was directed by Tim Burton, who also contributed to its story alongside screenwriter Caroline Thompson. Danny Elfman’s iconic score also brought magic to the movie’s world. Of course, it also featured an all-star cast, which included Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall, Kathy Baker, Vincent Price, and Alan Arkin.
