I’m living for the return of racing and driving games that are going against the grain, and next year’s Stuntman: Hollywood is absolutely part of that conversation.
It’s looking really fun in this new gameplay trailer. It’s focused on showcasing the sort of stunts you’ll be pulling off in its Knight Rider-themed stages, letting you get behind the wheel of KITT:
While the video is brief, it does a good job of showing why the game is exciting.
Stuntman: Hollywood is a revival of an old school series in which you must drive cars in very specific ways to get the perfect shots on a movie.
This new iteration combines that fun, skill-based idea with real licenses, allowing you to drive through famous scenes and stunts from various famous movies and TV shows.
Knight Rider is one of them, and it’s joined by the likes of Jurassic World, Back to the Future, Miami Vice, and Fast and Furious.
The biggest question mark for me is how the game feels to drive.
The original Stuntman game was developed by Reflections, most famous for the Driver series, and it used the same handling model.
I’m hopeful that Hollywood’s developer, Saber Interactive, will replicate some of that feel, but either way, it’s a game that needs to be arcadey and slidey in my view.
If it feels great to play and has a good variety among all its licensed levels, I think this could be a personal favourite when it arrives next year.
