Royal Enfield Hypershift Classic 650 Morphs Into a Tribute to Past Motorcycle Colors

Come 2027, Indian bike maker Royal Enfield will celebrate its 125th anniversary. As is customary, a number of special events are planned, as is the release of new, special models. The party when it comes to new motorcycles has already begun some time back, and it continues this October with the launch of something truly unseen before.

Royal Enfield calls the design you can see in the attached gallery the 125th Anniversary Edition Hypershift Classic 650. Based on the model we already know and love, this fresh design is supposed to be a throwback to the many colors the bikes made by Royal Enfield have worn over the decades.

For that, the bike maker turned to a color called brass, in a throwback to the earliest Royal Enfield motorcycles from the turn of the last century. It forms the basis on which designers threw deep tones and shiny gold. Together, they work to change colors, alternating between red, green, and gold as light hits them from different angles.

Royal Enfield also included a gilded 125-year crest, special badging for the side panels, and hand-made pinstripes in key places.

Other than that, the Hypershift gets all the goodies the base Classic 650 already ships with, including its signature teardrop fuel tank and the nacelle headlight.

Mechanically, the stock 648cc parallel twin engine sits inside the frame, unmodified and capable of delivering 46 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and 52 Nm of torque at 5,650 rpm. The bike rides on a telescopic fork at the front and twin-tube hydraulic shocks made by Showa at the rear.

True to its habit when it comes to launching new special edition motorcycles, Royal Enfield requires customers interested in buying to register for the potential chance of landing themselves one of these two-wheelers.

The registration books opened at the end of last week, and they’ll stay so until the end of October. There will only be 125 Hypershift Classics made for each of the company’s key regions, each of them selling for prices that start at $8,499.

That number places the newcomer close enough to the rest of the range so that people won’t feel the difference, while at the same time making sure everybody understands not all Royal Enfield riders will get access to the limited edition.

The wait time for the Hypershift Classic 650 is not that long either, with deliveries expected to begin as soon as next month.

Separately, there is a good chance Royal Enfield will be attending next month’s Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) show in Milan, Italy, where it could bring along at least one highly anticipated two-wheeler. We’ll keep an eye out for that and report back once we know more.
