A television show older than many streaming viewers has taken Hulu’s top spot. Now, 20/20, anchored by David Muir and Deborah Roberts, leads the service’s US television chart 48 years after its debut.
According to StreamScope’s October 20 update, citing FlixPatrol, the ABC newsmagazine holds first place for a second day. Meanwhile, its chart history shows 9-1-1 led on October 18 before 20/20 moved ahead the following day.
What is behind 20/20’s Hulu chart appearance?
Recently, ABC aired “The Suitcase Murders,” a two-hour investigation reported by correspondent John Quiñones. After its October 16 broadcast, the episode became available on Hulu and Disney+ the next day.
In this case, investigators faced a disturbing discovery along a Wisconsin highway: human remains inside two abandoned suitcases. Later, DNA evidence and an online dating profile helped police identify what had happened.
However, the chart does not show which episode brought in the most viewers. Therefore, the timing connects the ranking with a fresh release without proving that one installment caused the rise.
How long has David Muir been part of 20/20?
Originally, the program premiered on ABC on June 6, 1978, long before Muir joined its anchor desk. Since then, it has covered investigations, major interviews and human-interest stories, rather than true crime alone. Muir joined the program as co-anchor in 2013.
Today, Hulu describes its approach this way: “20/20 brings you hard-hitting investigative reports, newsmaker interviews and compelling human interest and feature stories.” Alongside Muir, Roberts helps lead the current program.
Beyond streaming, the series has also drawn viewers during its Friday television broadcasts. According to ABC, “Born to Kill” reached 2.815 million viewers on October 9, based on Nielsen’s same-day measurements.
Importantly, that broadcast figure differs from Hulu’s daily popularity chart and should not count as its streaming audience. Instead, the two measures capture separate ways people follow the show.
