Following the nail-biting Season 4 finale of Mayor of Kingstown, the crime series created by Taylor Sheridan will return for its fifth and final installment on January 15, 2027.
In addition to today’s release date confirmation, Paramount+ dropped a massive 15-photo gallery from the final season. Per the official logline, the narrative picks up “in the wake of Tracy’s murder and the vengeance visited upon Callahan by Mike (Jeremy Renner) and Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley)”. It continues: “FBI agent Russell Hardy (David Morse) arrives in Kingstown searching for the fugitive Callahan by Mike (Jeremy Renner) and Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley),” per the official logline, which continues: “FBI agent Russell Hardy (David Morse) arrives in Kingstown searching for the ‘fugitive’ Callahan. A true lawman, Agent Hardy threatens to unearth all of Mike’s sins and secrets, and disrupt Kingstown’s tenuous balance of power.”
The final chapter of the pulse-pounding series also includes Edie Falco as Nina Hobba, Laura Benanti as Cindy Stephens, Hugh Dillon as Ian Ferguson, Tobi Bamtefa as Deverin “Bunny” Washington, Derek Webster as Stevie, Necar Zadegan as Evelyn, Nichole Galicia as Rebecca, and Lennie James as Frank Moses.
A Town Built on Corruption and Bloodshed
One year ago, I binged the entire series to prepare for Season 4, which I thought was the show’s best and most intense offering yet. In my review, I said, “a handful of plotlines do wrap with a nice red bow, which left me questioning the lawlessness of the town. Still, rather than look at this as a negative, it speaks to the corruption of Kingstown and how its law enforcement and gangs run rampant in a wonderland of crime, bigotry, and territorial pissings. Should the series continue, I look forward to more, just as much as you can look forward to being stressed out for 10 episodes of bleak storytelling and bloodshed.”
At the time, Mayor of Kingstown had yet to get its Season 5 renewal. Now that we know an abbreviated eight-episode final season is on the way, I can steel myself for the massacre to come. While opinions about Sheridan’s creative output vary, I’m eager to return to Kingstown for what I’m certain will be an epic conclusion with few people left alive to tell the tale.
