Ben Affleck is hardly an AI skeptic. The actor and filmmaker has spent years digging into the technology, launched his own AI startup, InterPositive, and recently sold it to Netflix. But that doesn’t mean he buys the Silicon Valley pitch that filmmakers are about to become obsolete by the new tech. In a new interview with GQ, Affleck argues that AI will remain a tool in the filmmaking process, not a replacement for the people actually making movies—and says the idea that someone will eventually be able to simply type a prompt and generate a finished film is fundamentally misguided (downplaying the fears connected to AI and the risk to TV/film industry jobs).
