Sylvester Stallone Just Confirmed He Wrote a New ‘Rocky’ Sequel Script

As the 50th anniversary of Rocky’s release approaches, fans of the iconic boxing film series have been celebrating the nine-movie franchise. That makes the news that Sylvester Stallone just confirmed that he has written the script for a Rocky sequel a massive deal.

Sylvester Stallone Has Written Another Chapter of the Legendary ‘Rocky’ Franchise

Since Rocky was released in 1976, Sylvester Stallone has portrayed his iconic character onscreen at least once in every decade aside from the 2020s. After he didn’t appear in 2023’s Creed III, it seemed like his run embodying the beloved boxer on the big screen might be over. However, there is a new reason to think that may not be the case because the legendary actor has just revealed that he wrote a new Rocky sequel script.

On October 23, 2026, TV Insider published a Stallone interview after talking to the actor about the upcoming 50th anniversary of Rocky’s release, on November 20, 2026. Easily the most remarkable part of the conversation came when Stallone confirmed he has written a new Rocky sequel script and detailed part of its story.

“I have written another chapter to the Rocky saga, and I think it would be a good opportunity to explore life outside the ring, and how the world is changing around him and how his neighborhood is not like it once was, and he devotes himself to the less fortunate.”

Unfortunately, Stallone went on to state that he isn’t sure that Rocky fans would be interested in the sequel story he wrote. He also clarified that he wrote the script for himself.

“I don’t know if it would really be that interesting to most people. So, I just wrote it for myself.”

Of course, just because Stallone seems far from certain that the script he wrote will ever go anywhere doesn’t inherently mean it will never be produced. Additionally, the fact that he felt the creative drive to write another Rocky story makes it seem like the door is open to making a sequel. It is also exciting that, while talking to TV Insider, Stallone expressed his interest in a potential Rocky prequel.

“There might be an opportunity for a prequel because I believe it’s fascinating to watch where these individual characters came from and I have many ideas of how their paths crossed. During that particular period in time, the 1960s, there was a great transition happening in the country and in music and many other elements of society, so I would love to do that project.”
