Sitting for at least several decades. This is the sad story of the 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu that you can see in the photos. This car spent way too many years in the owner’s yard after struggling with some overheating issues.
The vehicle has obviously seen better days, and based on the photos, it’s all because of the long time of sitting. The images suggest the vehicle has been sitting under a tarp right outside in the owner’s yard, so the metal issues are barely surprising.
“The floor and the trunk pans need to be replaced,” the seller explains.
The 1964 Chevelle lineup was offered in five body styles, beginning with the Series 300 sedan, the Series 300 wagon, and continuing with the Malibu coupe and the Malibu convertible. The 1964 model year also witnessed the return of the El Camino, previously offered as a stand-alone series supposed to compete with the Ford Ranchero in 1959 and 1960, which was now the pickup version of the Chevelle.
Chevrolet tried to configure the Chevelle in such a way that it would join its portfolio right below the money-making Impala. It was offered with two six engines – a 194 and a 230 – but also borrowed some small-block engines from the Impala, including the 283 and the 327.
This Chevelle Malibu left the factory with a 283 under the hood and a two-speed Powerglide transmission. “It should be matching numbers,” the seller says, suggesting that the man who picked up the car from the dealership was his father.
It is therefore available with lots of original goodies, including the wheel covers, the bill of sale, the manuals, and the ash trays. A title is now available.
“Dad can’t find the title, so we’re going to have a new one printed on Monday, October 26,” the seller explains.
As for the reason the car ended up parked in the owner’s yard, it was all due to an overheating issue the engine suffered long ago.
“In 1987, it was overheating, and cold water was poured in. Oil started mixing with antifreeze, and it wasn’t started again,” the owner explains in the eBay listing.
Whoever buys the car will now have to check this issue, so if possible, tell your mechanic to inspect everything under the hood before making an offer.
The Chevelle is selling at no reserve for now, with a $4,000 offer currently allowing you to get your hands on the car. If you want to get this project without a fight and avoid the fierce battle that could emerge in the coming days, you can trigger the Buy It Now option and pay $5,200 for the car.
The vehicle is parked in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and the auction is configured to end in 3 days.
