Nancy Guthrie Update: Important New Detail Emerges About Her Health

Nearly nine months have passed since Nancy Guthrie disappeared, and investigators still don’t know what happened to the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie. The case remains open, with no arrests made and lots of unanswered questions. Authorities and officials are still working to piece together what happened. Of course, Nancy’s family is also waiting for answers and hoping to learn the truth about her disappearance.

Now, a reporter who met Guthrie not long before she was abducted is opening up about his impressions of her. What stands out is his emphasis on her health, which has been a key focus of the investigation as officials work to determine whether she was in a fragile condition when she was taken or in good health.

Reporter Who Met Nancy Guthrie Months Before Her Disappearance Shares His Impressions

A Tucson reporter who met Nancy Guthrie just months before she disappeared now says she seemed healthy and mentally sharp. His account offers another look into the life of Savannah Guthrie’s mother before her disappearance, which remains a major unanswered case.

Andrew Christiansen crossed paths with Nancy Guthrie during a family outing at Tucson’s El Charro restaurant in October 2025, when Savannah was in town for an event tied to the “Today” show. At the time, he was reporting for local station KGUN before moving to Phoenix. The meeting took place just a few months before Nancy disappeared.

In a conversation with Brian Entin for his “Brian Entin Investigates” podcast, Christiansen looked back on that day and said he didn’t notice anything unusual about Nancy’s behavior.

“You could really feel the love that that family had for each other,” he said, also adding, “She looked great. Everywhere Savannah went, she went. She did not need any help walking.”

He also said Nancy was mentally sharp, stating, “She talked to me very well … she seemed fine, and she was excited to be there.”

Nancy Guthrie’s Health Remains a Key Point in the Investigation

What Christiansen remembers about Nancy is especially important given the questions that have come up about her health since she disappeared. Some reports and commentators have raised questions about whether her age and physical condition would have made it difficult for her to survive for long after being taken. If she was as healthy and mentally sharp as Christiansen remembers, it could suggest she was in better shape than officials have assumed. Of course, one encounter months before her disappearance can’t tell investigators everything about her condition at the time she vanished, but it does offer another detail to consider.

Nancy’s disappearance is coming up on nine months, and her family is still left wondering what happened to her. There haven’t been many new details to go on, which makes Christiansen’s account all the more interesting and significant.
