Cardi B’s Grow-Good Beauty Hosts NYC Salon Takeover

Cardi B’s Grow-Good Beauty brought its approach to healthy-looking hair directly to consumers with a one-day salon takeover in New York City.

The haircare brand took over JENNA’s on 9th on Oct. 21, offering guests personalized appointments designed around their individual hair textures and concerns. The event followed Grow-Good Beauty’s initial release, which reportedly sold out in 45 minutes.

Rather than presenting the collection through a traditional product display, the brand invited attendees to receive customized treatments and experience the products firsthand. I attended the event to see what the line could do for my own curls, which were in serious need of some attention.

I was paired with curl specialist LaToya Moore, who evaluated my hair before beginning the treatment. She immediately noticed that my curls had become oily and weighed down because I had been using too many oils.

Like many people with curly hair, I assumed that applying more oil would help keep my curls moisturized and healthy-looking. LaToya helped me understand that oil and hydration are not the same thing.

Hair oils can help seal in moisture and add shine, but layering too many of them can create buildup. In my case, the excess product left my hair feeling greasy, heavy and more difficult to style.

After evaluating my hair and scalp, LaToya performed a customized treatment using Grow-Good Beauty products. She finished the service with a relaxing scalp massage featuring the brand’s bestselling serum.

The massage was one of my favorite parts of the appointment, but it also reminded me that a solid grooming routine should extend beyond the curly strands. The scalp needs attention, too. Monitoring buildup, dryness, and changes in how the scalp reacts to certain formulas can help determine whether a routine is actually working.

By the end of the appointment, my curls looked fresher and more defined without feeling weighed down. The experience showed me that adding more product isn’t always the answer when curly hair looks dull or becomes hard to manage.

Men with curly and textured hair are frequently encouraged to layer creams, butters and oils to address dryness. Those products can be beneficial, but the appointment demonstrated why a routine should be based on how the hair responds—not how many products are applied.

Cardi B may be known for frequently changing her hairstyles, from sleek, waist-length looks to voluminous curls, but the Grow-Good Beauty salon experience focused on caring for the hair underneath the finished look.

My biggest takeaway was simple: If your curls start looking flat, oily, or overly coated, another layer of oil may make it worse. Scaling back and listening to a curl specialist can provide the reset they need.
