Little Shop of Horrors star Ellen Greene discusses the SHOCK of going from Small Theaters to Pinewood Studios

I’m not much of a musical fan myself, but I’ve always loved the musical stylings of Little House of Horrors. From “Suddenly Seymour” to “Skid Row“, there are so many great ones to choose from. Not to mention the phenomenal performances from Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin, and Levi Stubbs as Audrey II. Not to mention Bill Murray’s hilarious turn as a masochist. The property has persevered over the years, with stars like Sarah Hyland, Milo Manheim, and Elisabeth Gillies appearing in various off-Broadway versions of the musical. Hell, I love even seeing some of the high school versions, to see the creative ingenuity when it comes to bringing Audrey II to life. And as much as Roger Corman’s original may have originated the story, it’s Frank Oz’s film that made it a classic.

I was able to talk to star Ellen Greene about the movie’s impact more than 40 years later, and it was an absolute joy. As one of the lone cast members that transitioned from stage to screen, she discussed going from small theaters to suddenly performing in the same studio as James Bond, Pinewood. You can really tell how much Ellen appreciates how much the fans still continue to embrace the film. This was a great chat, which you can check out in the embedded video above.

Little Shop of Horrors plot:

A comedy, a love story, and a cult classic starring a giant singing plant from outer space – what else could it be but Little Shop of Horrors? Seymour – an orphan and a nerd who works in a run-down flower shop on Skid Row – spends his time doing menial tasks and dreaming of his co-worker, Audrey. Then, one day, just after an eclipse of the sun, Seymour discovers a strange plant. The exotic plant draws customers, saves the flower shop from bankruptcy, and makes Seymour a hero in Audrey’s eyes. But the plant has a rather unique appetite … and it’s getting interested in Audrey too.

Little Shop of Horrors 4K is now available for purchase.
