BYD‘s (HKEX: 1211) premium brand Denza launched its flagship Z9GT grand tourer in Hong Kong on October 23, expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific premium vehicle market.
Priced from HK$998,000 ($127,240), the Z9GT is the first luxury model in Hong Kong equipped with BYD’s flash charging technology and second-generation Blade Battery.
Liu Xueliang, BYD vice president and general manager of its Asia-Pacific auto sales division, presided over the launch. About 250 guests and media representatives boarded a dedicated offshore platform for the event.
Denza positions the Z9GT as a technology and performance flagship GT, saying it combines elegant design, high performance, a luxurious cabin and smart technology to embody the brand’s vision of “new luxury.”
The Hong Kong version of the Z9GT has a peak output of 850 kW (1,140 hp) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.7 seconds. It is built on a 1,000-volt platform and uses the second-generation Blade Battery.
Denza says the car can be “ready in 5 minutes, fully charged in 9 minutes.” According to the company’s previous explanations in the Chinese mainland, those figures refer to charging from 10% to 70% and from 10% to 97%, respectively.
The car also features BYD’s e3 tri-motor technology, which enables independent steering of the rear wheels for greater maneuverability.
Those powertrain specifications match the Z9GT’s e3 flash charging performance variant sold in the Chinese mainland. That version costs 369,800 yuan ($55,060), putting the Hong Kong price at about 2.3 times that of its mainland counterpart.
The Z9GT received an update in the Chinese mainland on March 5 this year, becoming the first production model delivered with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. On September 9, Denza added another e3 battery-electric variant priced at 329,800 yuan.
Hong Kong was Denza’s first overseas market. The brand announced its entry in June 2024, spearheaded by the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle).
The Z9GT has already entered overseas markets including Europe, Malaysia and Thailand. Denza held its European launch event in Paris in April, and the model went on sale in Thailand on September 16.
At the Thai launch in September, Liu said Denza had entered 13 Asia-Pacific markets. He said BYD would continue rolling out its flash charging technology globally.
