Fruit Cocktail From Walmart Recalled for Potential Lead Contamination

More than 40,000 cans of Great Value fruit cocktail from Walmart have been recalled because they may be contaminated with lead, according to an enforcement report from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company Pacific Coast Producers recalled about 1,800 cases of Great Value Fruit Cocktail in Fruit Juice from Concentrate. The recalled product came in 15-ounce cans, with a best by date of September 1, 2027, and the lot code 6FCB 04 C2263.
The fruit cocktail recall is listed as a class 2 event, which means eating the product may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
There is no safe level of lead exposure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Children face the most risk from lead exposure, but ingesting lead can still harm adults. Chronic exposure to lead has been tied to kidney dysfunction, high blood pressure, and cognitive impairment.
If you have the recalled fruit cocktail, do not eat it. While Walmart did not issue a press release, recalled items can usually be returned to the place of purchase for a refund.
