A Brad Paisley Tour Prank Once Left Taylor Swift Unable To Sleep for Months

Taylor Swift, 36, can sleep easy as the youngest member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Years earlier, however, a diabolical tour prank pulled by her inductor kept her up all night.

The prank took place while the future megastar was touring with country music icon Brad Paisley in 2007. What began as a practical joke had a lasting effect on Swift, turning the touring experience into one she’d never forget.

“We’ve been estranged since 2007,” Swift joked while onstage at the Hall of Fame ceremony, held at the Music City Center in Nashville on Monday night (h/t Rolling Stone). “[Paisley] took a tour prank too far, filled my entire tour bus with live crickets, thousands of them. For months I couldn’t sleep. All night I considered buying a pet lizard to eradicate the problem.”

At the age of 17, Swift joined Paisley on the road as one of the openers for his North American Bonfires & Amplifiers Tour in 2007. American Idol’s Kellie Pickler came aboard as well.

The “Love Story” singer has appeared alongside Paisley at a number of events since then, including the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, IHeartRadio Music Awards, CMT Music Awards, CMA Awards, and Swift’s own wedding. Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley attended the big ceremony, held in NYC’s Madison Square Garden on July 3, with Swift and NFL tight end Travis Kelce officially tying the knot.

“They were very clear with the invite, and I took this personally when I got the invite because in the invite, it said, ‘If you’re getting this, you mean a lot to us,’” Paisley told the Associated Press shortly after. “It was really fun to watch the cat-and-mouse game of like, ‘We can tell you roughly where it’s going to be, we’re not gonna say what building, and here’s the date. If you’re in, we’ll tell you more.’ I went to my wife, I said, ‘Want to go?’ She’s like, ‘Absolutely. We’ve gotta be there.’ So we did it. It was RSVP yes.”

The three-time Grammy winner further described Swift-Kelce wedding experience as “one of the least pretentious” he’d ever seen.
