Owner Paid $133,770 for This Rare-Color Porsche and Passed Away. His Car Just Sold for $141,300

Sometimes, just sometimes, cars laugh in the face of depreciation. And always, just always, they have something that makes their value skyrocket over the years. That’s the story with this 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder, acquired for $133,770 in 2023 and sold soon after the owner passed away for $7,530 more in 2026. The ace up its sleeve? The Gold Bronze Metallic paint.

Bye-bye, MSRP! Hello Paint-to-Sample Gold Bronze Metallic. That is one rare paint that drastically changes the sticker price of the model or its value on the used car market. For the 2023 model year in the United States, checking the box for a standard Paint-to-Sample color like the Gold Bronze Metallic added an extra $11,430 to the vehicle’s build sheet.

That was on top of the MSRP of $103,400 before any destination fees or before checking any option boxes. Because the daring Gold Bronze Metallic paint code Z52 is exceptionally rare on the 718, cars with that finish are highly coveted by collectors. Such cars frequently command between $130,000 and $150,000 on auction platforms.

Porsche built a total of 7,955 718 Boxster Spyders across its entire production run between 2020 and 2023. Only 1,365 units were built globally for the 2023 model year, with just 426 allocated to North America. Paint-to-Sample allocations were very expensive and difficult to secure during the final model year.

Sporting a generous amount of metallic flake, the paint finish leans more toward bronze than actual gold. Under direct bright sunlight, it displays a radiant golden-yellow base, deep copper undertones, and even a silver sheen. In overcast conditions, it pulls back into a sophisticated light-bronze tone.

The unconventional color debuted in 2010 on the ultra-limited 997-generation 911 Turbo S 10th Anniversary Edition, which was produced exclusively for the Chinese market. Only ten examples saw the light of day back then.

It was later added to Porsche’s Paint-to-Sample ultra-exclusive catalog via a special PTS Plus customer request. Only a handful of 718 Spyders in the world were ever painted in the show-stopping Z52 finish that is called Goldbronzemetallic in its home market, Germany.

In the meantime, Porsche discontinued the Gold Bronze Metallic, locking it away as an option only available for the Macan and the Panamera, which makes the 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder the more exclusive. The bronze-gold Porsche rides on 20-inch wheels finished in Satin Platinum with tires date-coded 2022.

This car is not all show and no go. The 718 Boxster is powered by Porsche’s 4.0-liter flat-six with naturally aspirated firepower, pushing out 414 horsepower (420 metric horsepower) and 309 pound-feet (420 Newton meters) of torque when the manual transmission is involved, which is the case for this car.

That six-speed manual transmission puts the power down through the rear wheels for a run from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.2 seconds, a quarter mile in 12.0 seconds with a trap speed of 118 mph (190 kph), and a top speed of 187 mph (301 kph).

The owner, however, did not enjoy those much. He bought it brand-new back in March 2023, paying $133,770 to drive it home. He passed away earlier this year, and the estate sold his Porsche with only 4,013 miles (6,458 kilometers) on the clock. “There was no reason to sell the car other than the owner has unfortunately passed,” the estate representative explained.

The bidding took off in the final minutes, reaching an incredible $141,300, which is far above the average. classic.com claims the average price for a 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder is around $118,780.

The seller says the car has never been tracked and has never been driven in winter, but was PPF-ed from bumper to bumper at the dealer, even before it was first driven, which means the eye-catching paint underneath should be intact. The car is still under warranty until March 20, 2027.

The gold-painted body and the manual black soft top shelter a cabin in black leather and Race-Tex upholstery with contrasting red stitching. The theme extends to the dashboard and door panels. Heated seats and carbon fiber trim are also on board.

A Burmester High-End surround sound system provides the soundtrack on board when the driver has had enough of the Boxster orchestra, as if that can ever happen. The owner had an aftermarket exhaust valve remote control system for more drama.

The buyer is taking home a car with a clean Carfax, two keys, the owner’s manual, the window sticker, and a battery tender. His car is ready to drive. The engine oil and filter, along with the air filter and spark plugs, were replaced in March 2026 at 3,760 miles (6,051 kilometers).

From this moment on, the new owner has two options: store the car in a climate-controlled garage, sit and watch how its value goes through the roof over the years, or drive it until its wheels fall off. Either way, he is a winner.
