Changan launches Deepal S09 flagship SUV in Middle East

range-extender flagship lets Changan push Deepal upmarket in the Middle East and Africa without depending on charging networks

Changan Automobile has launched the Deepal S09, a six-seat range-extended electric SUV co-developed with Huawei, across the Middle East and Africa, holding launch events in Oman and Egypt. The full-size model becomes the regional flagship of Deepal, Changan’s new energy vehicle brand.

A 1.5-litre turbocharged engine acts as a range extender for a two-motor four-wheel-drive setup, and fast charging lifts the battery from 30% to 80% in about 15 minutes under suitable conditions. Air suspension with adaptive damping manages the ride.

Second-row seats offer 16-way electric adjustment plus heating, cooling and massage, alongside twin 15.6in front screens, a 21.4in rear display and 20 speakers. The Deepal AD Pro suite covers adaptive cruise control, lane centring and automatic parking, backed by eight airbags.

Changan has sold more than 500,000 vehicles in the region since arriving in 1994 and is present in more than 40 countries. A range extender lets it offer an electrified flagship there without relying on charging networks alone.

“The Deepal S09 reflects our vision of making advanced mobility technology more accessible to modern families. With its intelligent performance, exceptional comfort and comprehensive safety features, this flagship SUV represents another important step in our commitment to delivering innovative vehicles for customers in Middle East and Africa region,” Cecelia, Sales Director at Changan Automobile Middle East and Africa, said.
