It’s all happening on the Switch 2 this week, and to add to this, Minecraft is now available on the new hybrid system. While Mojang already confirmed it’s a free upgrade for owners of the digital Switch version, we’ve now also got details about the upgrade for anyone who owns a physical Switch copy.
If you do have a physical copy of Minecraft for the original Switch, you’ll receive an in-game message when you boot up the title, inviting you to upgrade to the digital Ultimate Collection for Switch 2 at a discounted price.
This Ultimate Collection includes the Switch 2 version of the base game and five add-ons. The discounted price should be well under the Ultimate Collection’s regular price and less than a standalone copy of Minecraft for Switch 2 (priced at $29.99).
If you’re eligible for the free digital upgrade, keep in mind this offer is available from now until 21st January 2026.
In case you missed it, the Switch 2 version of Minecraft supports the Vibrant Visuals graphics upgrade, which comes with “enhanced lighting, shadow effects and more”. All versions of the Switch 2 version also includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, and it supports Vibrant Visuals.
