Chiefs Wide Receiver Trade: Kansas City Linked to Former First-Round Pick

The Kansas City Chiefs are in desperate need of help at the wide receiver position just seven weeks into the NFL season.

Earlier this season the Chiefs saw wide receiver Rashee Rice, who has since missed three games, exit with a hamstring injury. His replacement in the lineup, Tyquan Thornton, had the best game of his career before suffering a season-ending lower leg injury.

With Rice and Thornton out of the lineup, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has struggled – including in a Week 7 loss to Seattle where he threw for under 170 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

But Mahomes might have some help coming.

Chiefs Linked to Several Wide Receivers

In a new column on Wednesday, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler hinted that the Chiefs could trade for former Jacksonville Jaguars first-round wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

“League execs are sensing the end for BTJ in Jacksonville, as his targets and playing time have dipped. How Jacksonville has struggled to make this relationship work is still a mystery,” Fowler said.

“Thomas is an elite mover with size who draws coverage deep, setting the stage for teammates Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers to eat underneath. But that plan for Thomas hasn’t materialized this season. And teams are circling with interest. Kansas City and Pittsburgh are among those exploring receiver help.”

The column also suggested the Chiefs could be interested in a trade for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs and even Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.
