John F. Kennedy Jr. helped make the original Timex Intrepid a ’90s style staple, and now one of the decade’s most recognizable watches is getting a darker, sleeker makeover. The new Timex Intrepid x Dimepiece Blackout Edition takes the oversized watch JFK Jr. famously wore, shrinks it to a more wearable 36mm, and dresses it in black stainless steel with subtle purple accents. At $269, it’s a surprisingly accessible way to channel a little vintage cool.

The release follows last year’s sold-out Timex Intrepid x Dimepiece collaboration, created by Dimepiece founder Brynn Wallner and Foundwell’s Alan Bedwell. Their original idea was to reinterpret the 46mm Intrepid with a smaller, gender-neutral case and a more practical 60-minute rotating bezel. The new Blackout Edition builds on that formula with a stealthy finish, cream dial, signature Timex Indiglo illumination, and a black rubber strap inspired in part by the rebellious ’90s appeal of Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft.

The Blackout keeps the 2025 version’s cream dial and 36mm case size, but now in black stainless-steel with a black, rotating bezel and 60-minute scale in white. As with the OG Intrepid and previous Dimepiece collaboration, the new version uses a quartz movement to spin skeletonized hour and minute hands around baton indices for time keeping. But Wallner added Dimepiece’s signature purple to the seconds hand and 12 o’clock marker to add a bit of color, as she did with the 2025 version. The Indiglo pusher at 9 o’clock uses the identical, vivid “iris” hue and activates the throwback ’90s technology that backlight dial, allowing the wearer to tell the time in the darkest of conditions. The dial is capped with a mineral glass crystal, and the screw-down crown at 4 o’clock helps the watch achieve 100m water resistance.

The black NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) premium synthetic rubber strap is oil and chemical resistant as well as highly flexible for added comfort. The band is outfitted with quick release spring bars for easy swaps and signed with “Timex Indiglo” on both sides, but rather than in the white found on the OG and last year’s revival, the collab used a “debossed” black, adding to the stealthy look said to be inspired by the “sexy edge” of Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider franchise.

Wallner says she wanted to downsize the silhouette for a more, universal, gender-neutral fit. “Without pitch-perfect styling, bigger watches can be hard to pull off,” she says, “so I wanted something smaller and more wearable for all wrist sizes.”
