Armando Iannucci’s Next Film To Hit AFM, James McAvoy, Alicia Vikander & Taron Egerton Attached To Star

Here’s an interesting package heading to this year’s American Film Market. Deadline reports that FilmNation and UTA will be shopping Armando Iannucci‘s first film since 2019’s “The Personal History Of David Copperfield” at AFM next month, and it has three intriguing cast members already: Iannucci’s fellow Scotsman James McAvoy, Alicia Vikander, and Taron Egerton. Sources tell the outlet the untitled picture will be a conspiracy thriller.

Iannucci will write and direct the film, reuniting with longtime producer and BAFTA winner Kevin Loader. It’ll be their fourth film together after “In The Loop,” “The Death Of Stalin,” and the aforementioned “Copperfield.” One wonders what Iannucci has in mind for this new project. A conspiracy thriller could work for the satirist given his penchant for political absurdity: just look at the two Emmys and two WGAS he won for this work on the HBO comedy “Veep.”

But the trio of McAvoy, Vikander, and Egerton proves just as tantalizing here. None of the three actors have worked with Iannucci before, but they’re each coming off of various buzzy projects. McAvoy just had his feature directorial debut “California Schemin’“ hit US theaters, while “Faith“ just had its world premiere at TIFF 2026. Meanwhile, Vikander starred in Na Hong-jin‘s Korean sci-fi creature feature “Hope,” with the drama “The Last Day” on the way. And Egerton’s 2026 credits include “Apex“ and “Everyone Wants To F*ck Me,” with thecrime thriller “Kockroach“ hitting theaters next year.

Stay tuned for more news on Armando Iannucci’s new film once AFM starts in November. As for what it may be? Definitely not his project about President Trump: all sorts of roadblocks were put up to keep that one from happening.
