The A.J. Brown experiment in New England has not gone according to plan.
The Philadelphia Eagles traded Brown to the Patriots this offseason for a 2027 fifth-round pick and 2028 first-round pick. In his first game with his new team, the star wide receiver suffered a high ankle sprain that saw him placed on injured reserve.
Just last week in a 30-24 loss to the Chicago Bears, Brown hauled in three receptions for 48 yards on six targets. He and quarterback Drake Maye haven’t been on the same page, as he’s caught just six of 16 targets in his past two games upon return from injured reserve.
In his first game back from injury, a 31-13 win over the Tennessee Titans, Brown dropped a career high three passes from the quarterback.
“My timing was off. I’m much better than what I put on display today. There’s no excuses. I’ll be better,” Brown said after the game. “I expect myself to make each one of those plays. I’m more than capable of making those catches.”
A.J. Brown Misses Practice Again
This week, the former Eagles star wide receiver appears to be battling a new injury in addition to his ankle issue that knocked him out for four games.
“AJ Brown, not spotted at practice today, is not practicing because of a knee issue that has flared up,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported. “Brown also was listed on yesterday’s injury report with an ankle. Knee was added, as well, and his status for Sunday is up in the air.”

In three games with his new team, Brown has racked up nine receptions and 101 yards. He’s on pace for the worst season of his career and has only been held under 1,000 yards in one of his eight NFL seasons.
