Prime Video analyst Kirk Herbstreit is preparing to call Thursday night’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers.
The longtime college football analyst took over NFL duties for the streaming giant in 2022, adding to his busy schedule.
The longtime ESPN college football analyst is married to wife Alison, whom Herbstreit met when he was the quarterback on the Ohio State football team and she was on the cheerleading squad.
Kirk Herbstreit’s Wife Was Diagnosed With Cancer
Just last year, Herbstreit revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 when explaining why he got emotional after watching Ohio State’s national title win in 2025.
“It was almost like a perfect storm for me,” Herbstreit explained. “My son had heart failure two years ago, and they were talking about a heart replacement there for a while. He had to medically retire, and I think the gratitude I have for (Head Coach) Ryan Day putting his arms around Zak and keeping him involved.”
“There was that side of it, looking down and seeing him in his jersey after potentially facing replacing your heart to that. I haven’t really talked about this publicly, but Ali, my wife, faced some stuff. It’s been a tough year for me behind the scenes. My wife got diagnosed with breast cancer, you know, Ben [Herbstreit’s golden retriever] dies. It was just a lot of emotion, and when you do what we do, you endure.”
Herbstreit and his wife used an unconventional method to ensure all four of the children’s couples turned out to be boys – which they were with boys Jake, Tye, Chase and Zak.
“Well, my wife, to be specific, my wife was a gymnast…,” Herbstreit said. “When we would get done with, when we were done… she heard the male sperm were faster. She would do a handstand, she would go up on the bed, and we’re four-for-four.”
