At the start of October, we caught wind of next-gen upgrades for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, bringing them up to scratch with Xbox Series hardware.
Well, the upgrade is out right now for digital owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux on Xbox Series X|S, however bare in mind when upgrading to the next-gen version that previous saves won’t carry through and a new game is required.
It’s worth mentioning that both games also support the Xbox Disc to Digital programme, so if you pop the discs in and claim the digital license, you should be able to upgrade your physical disc-based copies too.
The patch notes are quite long, so here’s a few of the “highlights” from the new upgrade:
- True 4K at 60FPS natively on Xbox Series X|S – Upscaled to 4K at 120FPS
- Xbox Play Anywhere support
- Xbox Ally/Ally X optimisation – 4A TSR upscaling and antialiasing support

To install the ‘Next-Gen Update’ versions of both Metro Redux titles, simply press ‘Y’ and input ‘Metro Redux’ from the Xbox dashboard. From there you should be able to navigate to the Xbox Series X|S versions of each game. The update is free for existing owners.
