18 Years Later, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s Vampire Romance Is Back in Netflix’s US Top 10 Just in Time for Halloween

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s “Twilight” is back on Netflix’s US top 10, right before Halloween.

The 2008 movie was No. 8 on Netflix’s official US movie chart for the week of Oct. 19-25, according to Netflix’s Tudum. It was No. 6 the week before. On Oct. 23, it was No. 7 on Netflix’s daily US chart, Collider reported, citing FlixPatrol.

Netflix ranks its weekly charts by views, which it counts as total hours watched divided by a title’s runtime. “Twilight” runs 2 hours and 2 minutes.

The Whole Saga Returned on Oct. 1

All five movies came back to Netflix in the US on Oct. 1, per Netflix Junkie: “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and both parts of “Breaking Dawn.”

Only the first one has made the weekly top 10. Last week it shared the chart with Ben Affleck’s “Animals” at No. 1 and “Gladiator II” at No. 2.

A $37 Million Movie

Catherine Hardwicke directed “Twilight” from Stephenie Meyer’s 2005 novel. Stewart plays Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to Forks, Washington, to live with her dad. Pattinson plays Edward Cullen, the classmate she finds out is a vampire.

Three weeks before it opened in the US, Pattinson and Stewart walked the red carpet for it at the Rome Film Festival. That was Oct. 30, 2008, 18 years ago this week.

Summit Entertainment made it for about $37 million. It opened to $69.6 million in the US in November 2008 and finished with almost $400 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

Critics didn’t like it much. It has a 48% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and 72% from audiences, per Collider.

The sequels came fast anyway. “New Moon” came out in 2009, “Eclipse” in 2010, and the story ended with “Breaking Dawn,” split into two movies released in 2011 and 2012.

Where Pattinson and Stewart Went Next

Pattinson was 22 when “Twilight” opened, and Stewart was 18. Before that, he was best known as Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” She had been acting since she was a kid, in movies like “Panic Room” and “Into the Wild.”

Since then, Pattinson has played Batman in “The Batman,” and Stewart got an Oscar nomination for playing Princess Diana in “Spencer.”

A ‘Midnight Sun’ Series Is in the Works

Netflix also ordered an animated series based on “Midnight Sun,” Meyer’s 2020 novel that retells the first book from Edward’s point of view, Collider noted.
