Douglas: Jack Nicholson “Isn’t Working Anymore”

Sony Pictures

Actor Michael Douglas has shut down talk that 89-year-old actor Jack Nicholson is coming out of retirement.

Last year, filmmaker James L. Brooks hinted that Jack was “reading scripts” and “we’ll soon be seeing” him back on the big screen. It was a surprising announcement, but now seems premature.

82-year-old Douglas, discussing his recent memoir at the Swansea Building Society Arena this week (via World of Reel), shot down the talk saying Jack has, professionally at least, disappeared:

“I would have liked to have acted with Jack. He’s not working any more. He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that. I still see him, but he is fine. He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand.”

Brooks’ 2011 film “How Do You Know” was Nicholson’s last on-screen appearance, though the actor was slated to star in a remake of the German hit “Toni Erdmann” in 2017 – that project never moved forward.

If he never acts again, the actor has left behind countless memorable roles from “Chinatown” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” to “The Shining,” “Batman,” “A Few Good Men,” “As Good as It Gets” and more.
