Sydney Sweeney’s R-Rated Comedy Is One of HBO Max’s Top Movies

From box-office buzz to streaming success, Sydney Sweeney is attracting attention once again as her R-rated comedy has become one of HBO Max’s top movies.

Anyone But You, based on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, initially hit theaters in 2023. Three years later, it has now climbed to No. 8 among HBO Max’s most-watched movies in the United States, according to FlixPatrol.

Starring Sweeney and Glen Powell, Anyone But You follows the story of Bea and Ben, two people who share an icy first date and later find themselves pretending to be a couple at a destination wedding in Australia. Despite their mutual dislike, the pair gradually develop feelings for one another as their fake romance takes a number of twists and turns.

Additional cast members include Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, and Darren Barnet. Will Gluck, known for Easy A and Friends with Benefits, directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Ilana Wolpert.

‘Anyone But You’ Is an All-Around Success

According to FlixPatrol’s Oct. 30 rankings, Anyone But You is the No. 8 movie on HBO Max in the United States, trailing the likes of The Invite, The Death of Robin Hood, Corpse Bride, and Coraline. The Housemaid, also starring Sweeney, holds the No. 3 spot.

The Housemaid, a R-rated psychological thriller released in 2025, arrived to HBO Max on Oct. 9, 2026. Sweeney’s 2023 rom-com followed suit on Oct. 20.
