Robert De Niro is one of the greatest actors to ever live, and he’s certainly had plenty of success in the crime thriller genre.
Whether you’re looking at Goodfellas, Heat, The Godfather, Taxi Driver or so many others throughout his illustrious career, he’s mastered the genre.
But when looking at films he’s headlined over the last decade, The Irishman, released in 2019 and directed by Martin Scorsese, stands out. It marked the ninth film Scorsese directed with both De Niro and Al Pacino starring together.
Yet, unlike many of De Niro’s classics, The Irishman found most of its commercial success through streaming. Netflix handled the film’s production and funding, making it an original title for the platform.
Looking at Netflix original films, The Irishman holds a 7.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb. That’s a particularly high score for the platform and actually makes it the second-highest-rated Netflix original film, tied with two other movies carrying the same rating: All Quiet on the Western Front and Society of the Snow.
The only Netflix original film with a higher rating is Marriage Story, which holds a 7.9 out of 10.
