Dwayne Johnson is back on Disney+ with a new live-action adventure.
The actor’s latest remake, Moana, is now available to stream, giving fans another chance to see one of Disney’s familiar stories reimagined for the screen. The platform officially added Moana (2026) to its lineup on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The film was initially released in theaters on July 10, with Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia bringing lead characters Maui and Moana to life, respectively. Johnson previously voiced Maui in the 2016 animated hit of the same name and Moana 2.
Like the original, Moana (2026) follows the story of “Moana, a spirited Pacific voyager, as she answers the ocean’s call and sails beyond the reef of her home, Motunui, for the first time. Along the way, she meets the demigod Maui and together they embark on an unforgettable quest.”

The animated version grossed over $643 million at the worldwide box office. The newest iteration, meanwhile, generated about half with $323 million worldwide. Disney president Dana Walden partly attributes this box office dip to the close distance between Moana 2 and the recent remake. The animated sequel hit theaters in late-November 2024, putting forth only an 18-month window for the live-action adaptation of the original to follow.
According to FlixPatrol’s October 22 rankings, Moana 2 is the No. 9 movie on Disney+ worldwide. Moana (2016) holds the No. 5 spot on the chart.
The new Disney+ addition has yet to enter the top 10. It stars Johnson, Laga’aia, John Tui as Chief Tui, Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, and Frankie Adam as Sina.
