Arcfox, the EV brand under Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), opened pre-sales for the 2027 Alpha S5 on Friday, making LiDAR standard across the lineup as it seeks market share in China’s fiercely competitive electric sedan segment.
Arcfox describes the car as an “AI high-performance wide-body sports sedan.” It offers 3 battery-electric variants at pre-sales prices ranging from 121,800 yuan ($18,130) to 144,800 yuan.
The 650 Plus LiDAR version is priced at 121,800 yuan, the 650 Max LiDAR at 131,800 yuan, and the 750 Max LiDAR Shenxing at 144,800 yuan.
Customers who place orders during the pre-sales period are eligible for benefits worth 18,800 yuan, including special paint worth 5,000 yuan, a lifetime warranty on the battery, motor and power electronics, and a charging pile voucher worth 4,999 yuan.
Arcfox has yet to announce an official launch date. The brand’s Alpha T7, launched in September, had a starting price 5,000 yuan below its pre-sales price.
The 2027 Alpha S5 measures 4,886 millimeters in length, 1,930 millimeters in width and 1,480 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 millimeters, unchanged from the current model launched in March.
The new model uses a single rear-mounted motor with a peak output of 227 kW (304 hp), enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The current single-motor battery-electric variants produce a maximum of 185 kW or 200 kW.
All variants come standard with batteries from CATL (HKEX: 3750), offering CLTC ranges of 650 kilometers or 750 kilometers.
The new model supports 5C ultra-fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in 8.9 minutes and adding 560 kilometers of range in 15 minutes.
The 2027 Alpha S5 adds a 148-liter frunk and offers 7 exterior colors and 3 interior color schemes. It has a drag coefficient of 0.1925.
Technology upgrades are a key focus of the update. All variants come standard with 192-channel LiDAR, complemented by 3 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and 7 high-definition cameras.
The car features BAIC’s Yuanjing intelligent driver-assistance system, powered by an end-to-end 4.0 AI model. It supports urban and highway navigation assistance, automatic emergency steering (AES) and memory parking across multiple floors.
The vehicle uses Qualcomm’s (NASDAQ: QCOM) Snapdragon 8775A chip, which integrates cockpit and driver-assistance functions. The cabin features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 68-inch augmented reality head-up display, with access to Alibaba’s Qwen and ByteDance’s Doubao large language models.
The new model also features FSD variable-damping shock absorbers and 4-piston brake calipers. Arcfox says the car can stop from 100 km/h in 33.5 meters and completed the moose test at 82.8 km/h.
The current Alpha S5 went on sale on March 18 with both battery-electric and extended-range variants, starting at 99,800 yuan after subsidies. The battery-electric versions start at 116,800 yuan.
Arcfox has so far announced pre-sales prices only for the 2027 battery-electric variants and has not disclosed whether the extended-range versions will receive a simultaneous update.
The Alpha S5 competes in a crowded price segment that includes similarly priced electric sedans such as Xpeng‘s (NYSE: XPEV) Mona M03 and Leapmotor‘s (HKEX: 9863) B01.
Arcfox said that the Alpha T7 secured more than 30,000 locked-in orders within one hour of its launch.
