Pro Golfer Max Homa Talks Fatherhood, Coterie Partnership & Upcoming TGL Season (Exclusive)

Six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa has garnered a reputation in golf not only for his exemplary and TV-perfect swing, but also for his wit and honest humility that fans can’t help but deem charming. But for those who didn’t know, away from the golf course, Homa is the consummate family man: a loving husband to his wife, Lacey, and a hands-on parent to his two kids, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old.

I recently got to speak with Homa about his love for being an active dad and how he’s taken that love and utilized it for his new campaign with famous baby brand Coterie. In it, he helps emphasize the point that “moms still carry 71% of all the household cognitive labor, and it’s time to share it.”

This isn’t about blasting fathers for this staggering statistic, but rather the campaign serves as a reminder of all the things that many moms take care of in regard to the children: changing diapers, school pickups, cooking meals, preparing snacks, buying clothes, scheduling doctor appointments, drop-offs at soccer practices. I haven’t even provided an exhaustive list of child needs, and I’m already exhausted.

That being said, once Homa talked shop on fatherhood and his Coterie collaboration, I, of course, asked about golf. He was quite open about the rest of this year on the PGA Tour and what his expectations are for the upcoming TGL season playing alongside Tiger Woods, Tom Kim, Akshay Bhatia, and new teammate Keith Mitchell.

Men’s Journal: Congrats on the campaign. Can you tell me more about it and why it was so important for you to be a face of it?

Homa:  Yeah, well, I mean, Coterie. Something that’s just been a part of our household for the last, about to be, four years. So it’s always kind of funny and awesome when a phone call comes across that involves that company.

We love Coterie. And then the campaign is so cool. I really appreciate their messaging. I feel like it’s about sharing the mental load better. As dads, I think in general, we are getting better at being a part of everything and being with the kids more and doing more. I guess, more than the generations before.

I feel like my mom always mentions that men just are never ahead [laughing]. So when it comes to kids, it’s like splitting that up is trying to help in a better way, more efficient way.  And, you know, obviously that’s awesome, and I really appreciate them [Coterie]. I feel like they’re not doing it in a condescending way. They’re just doing it in a funny, enjoyable way.

Men’s Journal: Not to get too personal, but during your downtime when you’re not so busy on tour, how many of the diapers are you changing and meals are you whipping up?

Homa: I mean, diapers. Yeah, that’s my gym.  I’ve been joking lately with my wife that it seems like her nose doesn’t work when I’m home. [Laughing] I seem to be passing the child, and then I’m the one recognizing.

I think for the dudes, you gotta be the diaper changers the best you can.  The moms do so much of the other stuff. You gotta get that thing. That’s not a hard one. But yeah, so tons of diapers for me.  We are fortunately out of diapers, at least during the day for my oldest, and then just my one-year-old.  So that’s been, you know, it’s been nice to change a few less.

And yeah, I don’t know, I whip up some meals. My cooking is so much worse than my wife’s, but definitely I’ve had to get better at cooking because of having kids, which has been good.  I’ve always wanted the reason to get a bit better at it. But yeah, I’m more of the easy ones: mac and cheese, pasta, Dino nuggets for sure. Chicken nuggets for sure.  Breakfast is the easy one.

Men’s Journal: Best part of being a hands-on parent?

Homa: There’s a couple, but I mean the big one is just, you know, especially with my oldest, it’s just cool to be somebody’s favorite thing. He likes using me as a jungle gym. He likes just talking my ear off about whatever. I just think that’s really cool.

On Mexico Open: “Mindset Is to Compete”

Men’s Journal: Well, switching gears to golf. Going into the VidantaWorld Mexico Open, what’s your mindset? And what would you say are the keys to your success in the event?

Homa: I mean, mindset is to win. Mindset is to compete. [Laughing] You know, I promised my son at the beginning of this year that I’d win him a trophy. So I really only have probably one more chance to do that. So I’d love to do that.

But yeah, the keys for me is typically, or has been typically, to play more athletically and less golf swing. I’ve done a good job of that the last couple of months, maybe three months. And I’ve seen the benefits of that. I’ve really liked how I’ve played.

Men’s Journal: Are you excited that TGL is picking back up soon? And how do you approach it this year coming off of the Tour?

Homa:  Yeah, TGL is obviously unique. I don’t know if I approach it any different, but you definitely have a bit of a different mindset when you’re there. As far as, you know, length and distance… So you’re very cognizant of that, I guess, in the prep. And then haven’t been in that arena for a while, so it’s going to be getting used to kind of the lighting on the visuals, its quite odd, especially when you putt.

There’s just a lot of unique things. It’ll take getting back there in the fields again. But in general, I don’t prep too much. I’m just excited to get back with the fellas. We just got Keith Mitchell on the team, so that’ll be fun.

Men’s Journal: I was actually going to ask: how do you feel Keith helps round out your TGL team?

Homa: Well, Keith is an amazing golfer, and especially driver of the ball. The league, the way it’s set up, distance is such a heavy factor. So it’s nice to have one of the longest guys now on the team. That’s just really going to make it easier for us. We’ve been one of the shorter teams, if not the shortest, and just to have somebody like Keith come in just feels like it rounds it out nicely.

Don’t forget to shop Coterie and support Max Homa next at The VidantaWorld Mexico Open 2026, kicking off on October 29.
