John Cena Is Returning to WWE Next Week With a Major Announcement

John Cena is returning to WWE television.

WWE announced during Monday night’s episode of Raw that Cena will make a special appearance on next week’s show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The announcement came shortly before the night’s main event, with WWE giving fans little indication of what Cena will have to say when he returns.

The appearance will mark Cena’s return to WWE television following his retirement from in-ring competition last year, and the timing is particularly interesting considering the major project that bears his name.

John Cena Has a Major WWE Project Coming

Cena announced the John Cena Classic at WWE Backlash in May, describing it as a new event designed to spotlight established WWE stars alongside talent from NXT.

The concept is unlike a traditional WWE tournament. Wrestlers will compete for a spot on the event, but the eventual champion will be determined by the fans. That means a wrestler doesn’t necessarily have to win their match to become the inaugural John Cena Classic Champion.

Cena subsequently confirmed that the event is scheduled for December.

During an appearance on TODAY earlier this month, he explained that the event would be built around the nostalgia and values associated with his WWE character, including “hustle, loyalty, respect, perseverance” and overcoming the odds. He also acknowledged that the concept is something of a gamble.

“I don’t even know if it’s going to work,” Cena said, according to F4WOnline, while explaining that he’s willing to take bold chances with WWE.

WWE has not yet announced an exact date or location for the John Cena Classic.

What Will John Cena Announce on Raw?

WWE has only announced that Cena will be appearing on Raw in Brooklyn. There has been no official confirmation that he will reveal new details about the John Cena Classic, but the timing makes it an obvious possibility.

The Classic is now less than two months away, and fans still don’t have an exact date or venue. Cena’s return could provide an opportunity to fill in some of those blanks. It’s also possible that WWE has something else planned entirely. For now, the company isn’t saying.

Cena’s return to WWE television comes nearly a year after his final match.

The 17-time world champion wrestled his last match in December 2025, officially bringing his 24-year in-ring career to an end. He has remained involved with WWE since then, however, including through his role in developing the John Cena Classic.

His retirement hasn’t meant that WWE has completely disappeared from his schedule. Cena hosted WrestleMania 42 earlier this year and has continued to serve as an ambassador for the company. Still, a return to Raw is different from a promotional appearance.
