William Contreras has another championship to add to his resume, and this one came with his younger brother watching from the stands.
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night to win the first World Series championship in franchise history, giving Contreras an extraordinary second championship of 2026.
Earlier this year, Contreras helped Venezuela win its first World Baseball Classic title. Now, after the Brewers’ World Series victory, he has become just the third player to win both the World Baseball Classic and the World Series in the same calendar year, joining Alex Bregman and Luke Gregerson, who accomplished the feat in 2017.
Willson Contreras Flew to Tampa Bay to Watch His Brother
William’s older brother, Willson Contreras, made the trip to Tampa Bay specifically to watch him play in Game 5.
The Boston Red Sox veteran reportedly flew in from Hawaii on Wednesday and showed up wearing his brother’s Brewers jersey. FOX Sports reported that Willson wanted to be there for William’s biggest night.
Both brothers were part of Venezuela’s historic World Baseball Classic team that defeated the United States 3-2 in March to give the country its first WBC championship. It was also the first time brothers had suited up for Venezuela in the tournament.
Contreras wasn’t simply along for the ride during Milwaukee’s historic postseason run.
The 28-year-old catcher was one of the Brewers’ most important players throughout October. MLB noted before Game 5 that he posted a 1.141 OPS with three home runs and eight RBIs during the postseason, while also catching every postseason game for Milwaukee.
He also made a major impact defensively during the World Series, throwing out Rays runners attempting to steal in three of the first seven attempts through the first three games.
His performance made him one of the players at the center of Milwaukee’s historic run, and his big brother got to see the whole thing unfold.
