A man has died after falling off a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, with the moment he fell actually being caught by the ride’s onboard cameras.
On October 12, a number of reports hit social media that someone had fallen from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. A number of videos appeared online of the attraction being stopped on the tracks, with claims that other riders were being disembarked.
Those rumors were quickly addressed by police and theme park officials, with Cobb County Police Department confirming that a man had died, but stopped short of confirming the cause. Additionally, it was announced that several other people had been injured during the incident.
Eyewitnesses say man was thrown from Six Flags coaster
Speaking to 11Alive, one eyewitness said that the man had been ejected from the ride and landed on a haunted house attraction. Another witness told WXIA that the man “fell and hit the car three different times.”
Additionally, social media posts revealed that the rides’ on-board cameras – which are used to shoot souvenir images – had captured the man during the incident.
In more than one photo, a body can be seen outside of the seats and coming into contact with other riders. People can also be seen ducking out of the way too.
Like police, park officials haven’t confirmed where the man landed just yet, but noted that they are investigating the cause of the incident. On top of that, several “similar” coasters have been temporarily closed across a number of Six Flags parks.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” Six Flags said.
“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”
At the end of September, it was reported that more than 100 people were looking to sue Six Flags due to injuries that had occurred after riding the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California.
The lawsuits follow an investigation by CNN that found more than a dozen serious injuries and hospitalizations linked to X2 over nearly two decades.
