Marvel Sets ‘Zodiac’ Live-Action Series for 2028

Marvel TV revealed its latest series, spy-thriller Zodiac, is set to release in 2028, as part of its New York Comic Con panel, which took place at the Javits Center on Thursday.

The live-action series, which will go into production next year, was teased with its own logo that seemed to hint at a potential connection to the SHIELD agency, and is among one of the five shows THR previously reported were in the works.

The panel also revealed a number of other title developments, including the return of Marvel Zombies, through a trio of two-part specials, the first of which, tied to The Winter Soldier, will hit Disney+ during the Halloween season next year. Additional specials will focus on The Fist of Konshu, slated for 2028, and The Last Guardian, which is currently dated for 2029 — though no details were provided on that character. Separately, Marvel TV also confirmed that season two of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will debut on Jan. 13, 2027.

In terms of talent appearances, three out of the four of the stars of Defenders reunited on the Empire Stage, including Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Finn Jones, teasing Daredevil: Born Again season three. Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage in two seasons of the Netflix series and is returning to excitement for the Daredevil: Born Again Disney+ series, was notably absent, with the panel joking he was “stuck at work.” VisionQuest creator Terry Matalas also took the stage with members of the series cast ahead of a screening of the pilot episode.

Thursday’s panel kicked off with a sizzle reel recapping series within the MCU, including Loki, WandaVision, She-Hulk, Ironheart, Secret Invasion, and the upcoming VisionQuest. Footage also provided a brief glimpse at an action sequence from the third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again, featuring Matt Murdock (Cox) fighting

Leading into the Zodiac announcement, Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, quipped how Marvel was “really trying to keep this project a secret, but y’all found out about it last week. So now I got to talk about it.” He added: “It’s a spy thriller. We start shooting in London this spring. Comes out in 2028 on Disney+. I’m sure there’s going to be lots of spoilers because we’re going to start casting it in the next couple of weeks, and it is amazing. If you’re a fan of the comics, there is a lot hidden in that logo. All you’re getting is that it’s supposed to be a secret.

Brian Andrews, who previously directed several episodes of What If, is back to helm the new Marvel Zombies specials. Teasing the final special, which is slated for Halloween 2029, Winderbaum told the crowd, “I won’t tell you who The Last Guardian is … It’s a gory, blood-splattery, but also quite beautiful show that I cannot believe Disney+ let us make.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man creator Jeff Trammell appeared on stage to tease what’s coming in season two. “Season one, we got to see Peter start out as Spider-Man. He’s learning. He’s growing. He’s got a mentor. None of that for season two,” Trammell said. “Season two, he’s ready to go, and he’s got big threats.

Among those threats are Doctor Otto Octavius and Scorpion, who return for season two. Spidey will also face off new villains as well. “And that means that Peter’s going to have to level up a bit,” he said

Alongside the animated Spider-Man series, X Men ’97’s third season was also briefly teased, with Winderbaum saying that “it’s incredible. I’m actually getting choked up thinking about one of the episodes right now.”

Stephen Wacker, Marvel Comics’ new Editor-in-Chief, also appeared on stage early in the panel to tease the future of the company and its upcoming titles.

“We sat with some of the greatest creators in comics, guys like John Hickman,” he said of a recent summit for the company. “We just talked about the future of Marvel. One of the best conversations, the most inspiring ones I’ve ever been in about comics. And we’re going to be working on stuff we’re going to bring you guys over the next couple of years.”

The panel also announced a new collaboration with Webtoon and new Marvel app coming later this year that will now be home to the company’s entire library, alongside a “new interaction” with Marvel Comics Digital Library that fans will experience.

New York Comic Con runs through Sunday.
