What Movies and TV Shows Has Nathan Fielder Been In? From ‘Nathan for You’ to ‘The Curse’

It’s been a long time since a documentary had the buzz and acclaim of You Can See Everything, following tech company Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the weeks before her imprisonment for fraud. Directed by comedian Nathan Fielder, the documentary has received a near-perfect 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and already tripled its budget at the box office.

Those who have followed Fielder’s career will not be as surprised at the brilliance and popularity of his directorial debut. Fielder’s career began with Canadian political parody show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, before making cameo appearances on shows like Important Things With Demetri Martin, Jon Benjamin Has A Van, and Bob’s Burgers. His breakthrough came with Nathan For You, a parody documentary show where Fielder “helps” businesses and people with ridiculous and wild ideas. IndieWire called the show “the greatest reality TV show ever made”. Nathan For You ran for 32 episodes, before Fielder decided to pursue other projects.

It was worth the wait. After more cameo appearances in shows like The Simpsons, Rick & Morty, and Comedy Bang! Bang!, and in movies like The Disaster Artist and Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, Fielder returned in 2022 with The Rehearsal. Similar to Nathan for You, the show is a documentary-style reality show where Nathan helps people prepare for difficult situations and conversations by meticulously re-creating locations such as their favorite bar, their house, and even an entire airport. Season 1 received a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, further cementing Fielder as one of the most unique, creative, and dedicated comedians currently working. The show ran for two seasons, with a third season still a possibility.

Fielder’s next project was a departure from his reality-style to a scripted dark comedy: The Curse. Starring Fielder and Emma Stone, the show follows a newlywed couple and hosts of an HGTV show as they navigate a “curse” put upon them by a young girl. Once again, it was met with extreme critical acclaim, with a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, You Can See Everything is his most praised work yet, truly a high bar for someone on one of comedy’s greatest golden streaks.
