Razer Lucario Blackshark V3 X Hyperspeed Pokemon Headset Reminds Me of Aura Sphere

With Razer’s different Pokemon headsets and gaming accessories, it can sometimes feel like certain designs are geared toward specific styles. The Eevee and Pikachu collection is incredibly pastel and coded to be cozy. (Since it’s wired, it tends to be my main work headset.) The Gengar Kraken Kitty V2 is more spooky, given the darker color scheme, and the way it has the “ears” on top almost makes me feel like it’s something you consider a fashion accessory with certain outfits. The Razer Lucario Blackshark V3 X Hyperspeed headset is the latest Pokemon item in the collection from Target, and it seems like more of an all purpose, any situation wireless option designed to channel both the character and maybe one of its more iconic moves.

Perhaps because of the way I’ve playing for years or maybe it’s because I still can’t forget Pokemon Conquest, but I can’t have a Lucario without Aura Sphere. (I mean, clearly developers agree considering it’s the evolution move for the character and main skill for them in Pokemon Sleep.) When it lands, there’s this blue outpouring of effects and energy. It feels distinct. And with the design of this headset, it sort of feels like Razer carried that kind of concept into it.

First, the general color scheme is perfect and on-point. It’s 100% black, blue, and grey. Since the earcup is the same blue as Lucario’s body and ears, it almost feels like the darker shades of grey and black on the headband, yoke, and speaker cushions are designed to be the accent colors on the character’s hands, face, and feet. Since the Razer logo is across the top of the headband and the Pokemon one is on either side above the speakers, it doesn’t feel like that’s drawing away from the other designs.

The actual Lucario and attack effects on the earcup are honestly a bit subtle. On the headband, the Pokemon’s outline is in blue and the possible Aura Sphere attack is in a lighter shade of grey. It’s very stylish. I do sort of wish the color choices were a bit more dramatic to make it pop more. As is, it’s a tad subtle and I could see the design for both it and the Aura Sphere attack on the earcaps being difficult to discern in some sorts of lighting.

The “secret” images of Lucario are far more apparent on the Razer Blackshark V3 X Hyperspeed headset. This is inside on the fabric covering the speaker, with the cushion acting as a sort of frame for it. It’s the same pose as is on the headband. However, since it is a solid color against a fabric that’s a shade of white, it is incredibly visible and a fun little reassurance that this is the Pokemon for the headset.

As for actual usage, the Razer Blackshark V3 X Hyperspeed Lucario version headset is just like the standard model. It’s versatile, in that it works with consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. The 2.4 GHz Bluetooth seems good, and it’s never dropped while using it. (When I was playing on my PC with some folks, I even walked to another room in my apartment for something and was fine.) The battery is great. (I haven’t had to charge it since I’ve gotten it, and I’ve been trying to use it at least two hours per day.) The cardioid mic works well, and I like that it’s removable. It comes with a wide array of cords, so charging and using it is easy. The sound quality is good, thanks to the 50mm drivers. There’s also great padding on the earcups and headband, so it was comfortable to wear for the hours I had it on.

The Razer Lucario Blackshark V3 X Hyperspeed is a solid headset with a more subtle Pokemon design. The logos are all the most obvious things at an initial glance, but in the right light you’ll see the distinctive references to the character and the signature Aura Sphere attack. The more obvious repeat of the design on the speaker fabric is even better. It’s a great additional option for the Razer Pokemon collection.

The Razer Lucario Blackshark V3 X Hyperspeed Pokemon headset is available at Target in the US.
