Sony Pictures has acquired film rights to developer Wrong Organ and publisher Critical Reflex’s psychological horror game “Mouthwashing”.
“Jennifer’s Body,” “The Invitation” and “Destroyer” director Karyn Kusama is attached to direct with her regular scribes Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay adapting.
Also onboard are “Sinister” duo Scott Derrickson C. Robert Cargill as producers along with Vince Cheng.
The 2024 first-person game, blending nonlinear narrative and surreal visions, landed a very strong 88 score on Metacritic and sold nearly a million units.
The story follows five crew members who are stranded aboard the space freighter Tulpar, where dwindling supplies, isolation and mounting paranoia expose the fractures between them.
Specifics of the film’s story are under wraps. Kusama was nominated for two Emmy Awards for directing Showtime’s “Yellowjackets”.
