5 Years Later, Dwayne Johnson Action Film Ranks Among Netflix’s Most-Watched Movies of All Time

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a man of many talents. He was a successful football player who reached the Division I level at the University of Miami, became one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time in WWE, and built a remarkable career as an actor.

Many of his films feature action, and he’s starred in some of the genre’s most well-known hits over the years. Those include the Fast & Furious franchise, The Smashing Machine, The Rundown and many others.

Yet one of Johnson’s biggest streaming hits came in 2021 with Red Notice, the action comedy directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and starring Johnson alongside Ryan Reynolds.

The film had a very limited theatrical run, making its Netflix release the main event. It went on to become a major success and held the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s most-viewed movies list for years.

Recently, KPop Demon Hunters surpassed it, dropping Red Notice to No. 2 with 230.9 million views in its first 91 days and 454.2 million hours watched.

What Is Red Notice About?

While the film was a success in terms of viewership, its plot and overall quality received mixed reviews.

It has just a 36% score on Rotten Tomatoes and holds a 6.3 out of 10 rating on IMDb.

But what is the movie about if you haven’t seen it yet?

Rotten Tomatoes’ movie description reads, “In the world of international crime, an Interpol agent attempts to hunt down and capture the world’s most wanted art thief.”

Johnson plays John Hartley, an FBI profiler, while Reynolds portrays Nolan Booth, a world-renowned art thief. The film also stars Gal Gadot, Ritu Arya and Chris Diamantopoulos.
