Dwayne Johnson’s New Movie Is the No. 1 Movie on Disney+ Worldwide, Beating 3 Halloween Favorites

Halloween may be taking over much of Disney+ right now, but one of the year’s biggest family movies is winning the streaming battle.

Disney’s new live-action Moana is currently the No. 1 movie on Disney+ worldwide, according to FlixPatrol’s Oct. 31 streaming chart. The movie has moved ahead of several familiar Halloween-season favorites, including The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus.

The live-action remake stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, reprising the role he voiced in the original animated movie. Disney’s official site lists the film as a 2026 action-adventure and confirms that it is now streaming on Disney+.

‘Moana’ Is Beating Disney’s Halloween Favorites

The timing makes the No. 1 ranking particularly interesting.

On Oct. 31, Moana sits at the top of FlixPatrol’s worldwide Disney+ movie chart, followed by Coco. The Nightmare Before Christmas is No. 3, while Hocus Pocus lands at No. 6. Home Alone is also in the Top 10 at No. 7.

In other words, even with Halloween at its peak, subscribers are choosing to revisit the tropical adventure rather than sticking exclusively with Disney’s seasonal favorites.

That’s not entirely surprising considering the live-action Moana is still a relatively new addition to Disney+. The movie was released in theaters July 10 before arriving on the streaming service in October. Disney lists it as a 1-hour, 55-minute movie and gives it a PG rating.

Dwayne Johnson Returns as Maui

Johnson is one of the biggest reasons the remake has a familiar connection to the original.

The actor once again plays Maui, the larger-than-life demigod who joins Moana on her journey across the ocean. Disney also credits Johnson as one of the film’s producers.

The new movie follows the basic story fans know from the 2016 animated film, but the live-action version brings the world of Motunui and its characters to the screen with a new cast led by Lagaʻaia.

And for now, at least, audiences appear to be choosing Moana over some of Disney+’s most reliable Halloween movies.
