These ’90s Bag Trends Are Returning to the Spotlight in 2026

Why is every kind of ’90s bag trending right now? The decade has cemented its place as one of fashion’s most influential periods; see Love Story-mania, the Tate’s current ’90s exhibition, and the next Met Gala theme. It’s no wonder every editor and influencer wants to channel that effortless sense of cool.

From chic minimalism to louder styles like bomber jackets and baggy jeans, the trends born out of the ’90s have a way of sticking around. And while the conversation usually centers around clothes, we can’t help but notice that so many ’90s bags have captured the zeitgeist. Barrel bags, slim totes, sleek shoulder bags—name something Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy would have worn, and it’s probably trending. It’s fair to say, then, that a good ’90s accessory is always worth the investment.

It’s not just nostalgia that keeps this era in the conversation. Its most popular bags are arguably some of the most practical. Hands-free fanny packs were all the rage, and micro-bags hadn’t even been invented. (After all, it was a time when bags had to handle about five different gadgets that have since been replaced by a single smartphone.) So let’s revisit some of our favorite ’90s bag trends and see which ones are worth wearing today.
