Cerence AI moving its car voice software into Geely robots shows automotive suppliers seeking growth in the emerging humanoid market
Cerence AI is extending its work with Geely from in-car voice assistants to service robots, demonstrating a humanoid robot running its conversational software at the Paris Motor Show this week. The robot understands French, English and Mandarin at the same time, so visitors can speak in whichever of the three they prefer.
Paris marks the first international showing of the robotics work. Cerence, whose voice technology has shipped in more than 525 million cars, is adapting that multilingual software to help machines listen and reply reliably across languages, settings and tasks.
For Cerence, robotics opens a market beyond its automotive core, and for Geely the deal adds a proven voice layer to its wider robotics ambitions. It also places Geely among Chinese automakers exploring humanoid robots, a field where rivals such as Xpeng are already active. Neither company has detailed commercial terms, target applications or a timeline for deployment.
In a statement, Christian Mentz, Chief Revenue Officer at Cerence AI, said: “For decades, Cerence AI has helped people communicate naturally with the machines they rely on every day. Through our collaboration with Geely, we are bringing proven human-machine interaction technologies into the emerging robotics space and helping shape the future of how people engage with these intelligent systems.”
