Whoever says that mobile homes can’t compare to a traditional, brick-and-mortar house need to have but a single look at the Golden Sky. With a full steel frame construction and dimensions that bring to mind comparisons with some of the nicest park tinies out there, Golden Sky is a tiny dream turned reality.
Tiny living usually gets a bad rap, if only on account of the fact that tiny houses are still more expensive per square foot than traditional homes. To that, you add the process of downsizing and decluttering that’s always a must when moving out of a regular home, be it an apartment or a larger house, and the absence of many creature comforts inside the tiny house, and you can understand why not everyone is a fan of this tiny house frenzy that’s still sweeping the world.
That’s not to say that tiny living doesn’t have advantages – just that many can’t overlook the disadvantages to even consider living in a tiny house.
Golden Sky would definitely not be on that list, because it’s not a tiny house per se. It’s a mobile home that would classify as a park tiny/park RV in the U.S. and other territories, or even an ADU, or additional dwelling unit.
Golden Sky is a mobile home but it is not designed to move around whenever you feel like a change of scenery. It has wheels, attached to a pair of tandem axles, one on each end of the trailer, but it can only move by special rig or by crane. You can’t simply hook it up yourself and start exploring the country by driving around, and it’s not made for that to begin with.
Built by Polish specialist Letniskowo and available across Europe, it is one of the largest mobile homes you’re going to see on the Old Continent, and not just because it features a rooftop terrace that runs the entire length of the home. Letniskowo does premium homes and glamping cottages, but even for them, Golden Sky is one of the largest on offer.
Measuring 13.3 meters (44 feet) in length and 4.3 meters (14 feet) in width, it’s 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) high without the safety railing on the terrace, which is attached on site. The home offers a total of 57 square meters (613.5 square feet) of living space inside, divided between two bedrooms, a separate living room, an open-plan gourmet kitchen, and a full bathroom, but you also get the aforementioned terrace and a porch at the back that doubles as an outdoor space for the living room.
Construction is different than what you get in smaller tiny houses, as well. Golden Sky is designed for year-round living and guaranteed to last you at least 30 years, so, in that sense, it’s closer to a traditional home than to a tiny house.
It’s built with a full steel frame construction that integrates the steel chassis, spruce siding, and weather-resistant finishes. It features PUR foam insulation that ensures no thermal bridges, has triple-glazed premium glazing throughout, and boasts expansive glass for a sense of openness that you won’t find in any other model or with other manufacturers.
Inside, you get premium finishes only, from the real wood custom cabinetry, to the all-electric appliances, granite counters, and designer furniture. They make up for the somewhat unsurprising layout, common to container homes as well, and create a space that can serve as a full time home for a family of three.
Golden Sky has three entryways, if you count the sliding glass doors that give into the living room from the rear porch. It offers an open-plan designer kitchen equipped with everything from a four-burner induction cooktop to a large dishwasher, ample storage and even more worktop space. It has a bar-style dining arrangement with three stools, and a counter in real wood, striking a nice contrast with the dark granite surfaces in the kitchen.
Unlike the majority of mobile homes out there, Golden Sky has a full bathroom with a plumbed toilet, an oversize wardrobe in the hallway, and additional storage in the bedrooms, both of which are grouped at the front. With a bit more cash, you can talk with the manufacturer and modify the layout here to have a single bedroom if you want.
The Golden Sky shown in the video at the bottom of the page has ventilation with heat recovery, an AC unit with heat pump, and WiFi-controlled underfloor heating. Thanks to this heating system and the PUR foam insulation, it boasts an H55 efficiency degree, which is the highest possible, so it will be actually usable year-round.
Panoramic views, high-end furnishings, and an incomparable sense of space and comfort are among the highlights that the manufacturer chooses to list on the official website.
They also note that this “is no ordinary mobile home” and that it does not overpromise, whatever you might think to the contrary. Golden Sky is “a retreat for those who appreciate the finer things in life.”
As a mobile home that can sit on a list of “finer things in life,” Golden Sky has a price to match: €138,250 excluding transport and crane costs but including everything you see in the unit toured below.
That’s approximately $154,900 at the current exchange rate, if you’re thinking of saving up. Completion timeline is for 2 to 3 months, but delivery is limited to Europe.
