In the very rich offering of Honda motorcycles, there is this category the Japanese call the Super Sport (alternatively spelled Supersport). It is the segment that includes, for instance, the CBR600RR, CBR1000RR, or the mighty CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.
All these bikes need quite a bit of experience from whoever wants to ride them, so not exactly noob friendly. Knowing this, the Japanese bike maker decided to expand the range with something called the CBR500R Four.
Situated at the opposite end from the Fireblade SP, it has been developed as a sort of offshoot of the CB400 Super Four, which has been selling in Japan for more than three decades, but one that’s new from top to bottom. And on top of that, it packs all the most modern technologies Honda presently has access to.
The 2027 Honda CBR500R Four, as it will be known from now on, is built around a steel diamond frame supported by an aluminum swingarm and a KYB suspension system that relies on 41 mm USD forks at the front and a Pro-Link rear shock.
Inside the frame, Honda installed a brand-new 500cc inline four-cylinder engine, which is not exactly a monster when it comes to output. Then again, this motorcycle is aimed squarely at new riders, both to the world of motorcycling and to Honda, so the numbers below should be more than enough: 69 hp and 46 Nm of torque, with the redline arriving at 12,500 rpm.
The engine and its power delivery are controlled by means of a six-speed transmission that can be run through the E-Clutch system, allowing for clutchless starts, stops, and gear changes. That should work wonders for A2 license holders, who will be treated to a properly detuned version.
The new middleweight bike rides on 17-inch wheels shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires, which are also fitted with Nissin braking hardware. Riders also have access to three riding modes and two user modes, controlled by means of the five-inch screen at the front.
Honda did not say specifically when the new motorcycle will hit the market, but it already revealed that there will be two color choices on the table, namely the Ignition Red (Tricolour) and the Mat Ballistic Black Metallic.
Pricing for the machine varies depending on the European country it sells in (and to learn more about that, you should get in touch with your local dealer), but no matter where that is, the 2027 Honda CBR500R Four throws in, as standard, a twin LED projector and a front fairing connected to the tank and side panels.
We have no word on whether Honda plans to launch the new motorcycle on the American market, where the entry-level position is presently occupied by the CBR600RR in this segment.
