This Destination Trailer Is Actually a Mobile Home With Everything Included

“Simplicity coupled with serenity can be a dangerously successful combination,” Forest River says in the description of the Salem Villa Destination Trailers lineup. It’s so successful that they’re working on expanding the popular line, and one of the new floorplans is said to be a serious contender for the “RV of the Year” title.

At least, that’s the vibe coming out of the 2026 Forest River Dealer Expo that took place at the end of last month (September), when a physical unit of the Grand Villa 43RLL debuted. Designed in accordance with the Salem Villa ethos of offering “a home away from home,” it’s loaded with every creature comfort you’d possibly need, while offering a floorplan that’s not usually common for destination trailers.

Hunter from The RV Hunter was on site for the debut and his impressions are all in the video tour available at the bottom of the page. The video also counts as the only available look into this new floorplan, which is yet to reach production stage and remains, at least on the official channels, in “TBD” (to be determined) phase.

By the looks of it, Forest River will be shipping the 43RLL to dealers later this month or in November at the latest and have the full list of specs become public at the same time. For RV-ers looking for a new park home on wheels, this first teaser should be enough to make them see if the 43RLL is worthy of getting hyped about.

Destination trailers are an entirely different breed of RV than travel trailers because they are not made for extended traveling, and some of them for any traveling at all. That means that they’re bigger, taller, and considerably heavier than the norm, which means they tow badly. Road equipment is also basic, so they wouldn’t tow smoothly even if you did decide to take your chance.

The upside to the bigger size and extra weight is that they offer more comfort – true residential comfort. They are home on wheels in that sense, but also in that they’re designed to double as vacation homes for the entire season or even full time, once you plop them on private land.

The Salem Grand Villa 43RLL, which will also be available as the Wildwood Grand Lodge 43RLL, is a three-slide unit built on top of a heavy-duty tandem axle chassis. It’s a very lavish, extra spacious couple’s unit but it will also work for families up to six members in total, offering the full gamut of features and modern conveniences.

While described as an elite destination trailer, it’s not a premium product. In this economy, a bit of cost-saving goes a long way, and the 43RLL does its best to be a bit more budget-conscious while not compromising comfort or everyday functionality. As Hunter says, it strikes a nice balance you won’t find in other destination trailers, and we have to take his word for it because he’s seen it in person.

The 43RLL also uses a layout you won’t find in most destination trailers, though not necessarily a novel one. It’s common to fifth wheel RVs, with a front bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and a rear living room that spills into the central kitchen space, but it comes here with extra-tall 13-foot (4-meter) ceilings, high slides, and lots of volume.

Since this floorplan works both for couples and families, it comes with dual entries, two bathrooms, dedicated dining, and a living room that’s tailor-made for cozy nights indoors, whether playing games, chilling, or watching TV. It really has everything you could need, that’s no exaggeration.

The main entrance is through sliding glass patio doors, into the kitchen space. Instead of an island, Forest River puts the fixed dining table in the middle of the kitchen, moving the wet block to the side, where you’d usually find a coffee hutch. The main kitchen block has residential – so full size – appliances, including a double-door stainless steel fridge and a large microwave.

Storage options are plenty inside the kitchen space, with large drawers and plenty of cabinets, and you also get a secret pantry behind the entertainment center. Prep space is also generous, thanks to large laminated counters.

Forest River says the 43RLL is designed around the living room, and you can tell by how spacious it is. Across from the entertainment walls is a row of four plus recliners/theater seats with integrated cup holders and small storage compartments in the center consoles. A tri-fold sofa with end tables sits at the back of the trailer and will double as a second bed if need be.

Kids get their own private space inside this floorplan: a loft over the secondary bathroom. Normally, this would be called a powder room or half-bath, but Forest River turns it into a laundry room. You’ll find here a porcelain toilet, a small sink on a vanity that extends into a counter that fits a side-by-side washer and dryer.

The main bedroom fits a custom king bed with a large storage compartment underneath, but also a dresser of drawers over which you get backing for a second TV and a large window. From the bedroom, you move into the bathroom, complete with a double vanity, a large glass shower, a toilet, and a front wardrobe with shelves and hanging space.

The Salem Grand Villa 43RLL comes with tongue-and-groove real plywood floors, a solid roof, a detachable hitch, manual stabilizers, heated and enclosed underbelly, high-efficiency H-Track A/C ducting, and a 60,000-BTU Suburban tankless on-demand water heater. Also standard are a couple of Solera awnings, slide toppers, and two-zone JBL speakers (inside and outside).

With the floorplan being in TBD stage, that means zero information on holding tanks, furnace, weights, and exact dimensions. Forest River is also keeping mum on pricing, but based on what we’ve seen in other Salem destination trailers, we’re looking at an MSRP of $94,000 to $97,000.
