  • The Mona L05 is the third model in Xpeng’s Mona lineup, with a limited-time starting price of 139,800 yuan ($20,820) in China.
  • Xpeng has begun global shipments of the SUV and is counting on new models to help push monthly sales above 60,000 units in the fourth quarter.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has launched the Mona L05 5-seat SUV in China with a limited-time starting price of 139,800 yuan ($20,820), expanding its lineup to drive sales growth.

The Chinese electric vehicle maker officially launched the mid-size SUV on Thursday, offering 6 variants across battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains.

The Mona L05 carries official guide prices ranging from 144,800 yuan to 176,800 yuan. Customers who pay a 5,000 yuan deposit by December 15 can receive a 5,000 yuan cash discount.

After the discount, limited-time prices range from 139,800 yuan to 171,800 yuan. The 4 BEV variants span that entire range, while the 2 EREV variants are priced at 149,800 yuan and 161,800 yuan, respectively.

Compared with the pre-sales lineup announced on October 15, the launch adds a new entry-level 560 Plus BEV variant. Official guide prices for the 5 existing variants are each 15,000 yuan below their pre-sales prices.

This brings the Mona L05 to market at a lower entry price, supporting Xpeng’s fourth-quarter sales push. The company’s year-to-date deliveries remain below the year-earlier level.

The Mona L05 is the third model in the Mona lineup, positioned above the Mona L03 compact SUV launched in July, as Xpeng continues to target younger consumers.

The new model measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,636 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,940 mm. It features a sloping roofline and frameless doors.

The BEV variants offer a maximum CLTC range of 635 kilometers (395 miles), while the EREV variants have a CLTC battery range of 310 kilometers and a combined range of 1,310 kilometers with a full tank and a fully charged battery.

Driver-assistance capabilities are among the main differences between trim levels. The Max variants feature 1 of Xpeng’s in-house Turing AI chips, with 750 TOPS of effective computing power, and support the second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) Lite model.

The Ultra SE variants feature 2 Turing AI chips, delivering 1,500 TOPS of effective computing power and supporting the full version of the second-generation VLA model.

Cabin features include a 17.3-inch central touchscreen and a 26.8-inch W-HUD head-up display. Xpeng also offers features including a rear entertainment screen, a zero-gravity front passenger seat and a 20-speaker audio system.

Overseas markets are also a key target for the Mona L05. Xpeng announced on October 26 that global shipments of the SUV had begun, with plans to sell it in 65 countries and regions.

Left- and right-hand-drive versions of the Mona L05 were developed simultaneously. Xpeng previously said it had deployed 660 vehicles for testing under extreme conditions across 25 countries and regions, but has not disclosed delivery schedules for individual overseas markets.

Xpeng delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, its highest monthly total this year, up 5.50% from August but down 0.78% from a year earlier, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on an earnings call in August that the company would aim to exceed single-month sales of 60,000 in the fourth quarter as it introduced new models including the G9L and Mona L05.

The company aims to sell 500,000 vehicles annually in Europe, with expanded local production key to achieving that goal.
