A new promotional image for the Mister Miracle TV show may have spoiled Darkseid‘s DCU appearance. Some fans believe they have spotted the supervillain before his potential DCU debut.
James Gunn shared a congratulatory message with a picture of Scott Free and Big Barda on X. He welcomed Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis to the DC Universe as the leads of the upcoming animated series. Hutcherson will voice Scott Free/Mister Miracle, while Davis will voice Big Barda.
However, comic book fans focused on a small, mysterious figure in the background. Some fans zoomed in on the figure and speculated that it could be Darkseid. @Mapu_SCCP curiously wrote, “DCU Darkseid?” while wondering about the anonymous character.
@DCULegion echoed similar sentiments and claimed, “Darkseid in the background!” @Artzbycm wrote, “Darkseid?” followed by another fan @chrislee558 who simply wrote, “Darkseid??”

What to know about Mister Miracle’s cast, story & DCU connections
The Mister Miracle animated series will follow the adventures of Scott Free and Big Barda. The story follows the couple as they try to build a life on Earth while war rages between their home worlds, Apokolips and New Genesis.
An official logline for the series reads, “No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?”
The series adapts Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ acclaimed 12-issue comic book series, with King serving as showrunner and writer. DC Studios officially announced the animated show in June 2025. Besides Hutcherson and Davis, it’s expected to have exciting cameos as well. There’s been no official update on this matter so far.
The show has yet to receive an actual release date. “We haven’t actually announced a date for it. We’re very advanced on it. I mean, we’ve seen animatics of the whole season. But I think we’ve always thought of it as ’28,’” Safran said the series is targeting a 2028 release, although an exact premiere date has not been announced.
