What is A Chinese Ghost Story III with Tony Leung about?

The story references the events of the first film, in which the Taoist Yin seals away the Tree Demon and warns that it will awaken in 100 years. A century later, Buddhist monk Bai Yun and his disciple Shi Fong travel across the countryside with a golden Buddha statue. Their journey takes an unexpected turn when they seek shelter at the haunted Orchid Temple.

The Tree Demon awakens and sends the ghost Lotus to seduce Shi Fong. She is ordered to kill him, but he spares her out of compassion. The two grow close. Lotus’ sister, Butterfly, grows suspicious of her sister ghost. Meanwhile, the Tree Demon threatens anyone who stands in its way. Fong and his master must confront the supernatural forces surrounding the temple.

In addition to Tony Leung, the film also stars Jacky Cheung, Nina Li Chi, and Shun Lau. Roy Szeto co-wrote the screenplay with Tsui Hark, who also produced the horror feature. Golden Princess Film Production and Film Workshop were also involved in the film’s production.

For viewers interested in Hong Kong fantasy cinema, A Chinese Ghost Story III offers a blend of supernatural romance, swordplay, and comedy.
