Ryan Murphy’s long-running anthology horror series isn’t done yet. American Horror Story has been renewed for season 14, which isn’t a big surprise considering the current season has set a record for the biggest streaming premiere in the show’s history.
American Horror Story Renewed, But Should It End Instead?
American Horror Story season 13 is the all-star season, featuring one of the biggest ensembles ever assembled, including the long-awaited return of Jessica Lange.
The rest of the cast includes Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, and Joey Pollari. With Avantika, Jamie Brewer, Elle Chapman, Berto Colon, Alex Consani, Frances Conroy, Mat Fraser, Seth Gabel, Orlando Jones, Paul Anthony Kelly, John Carroll Lynch, Tig Notaro, Madelaine Petsch, Fedor Steer, Mena Suvari, Zach Villa, John Waters, and more making appearances. Many of these actors are playing multiple roles.
Fans were obviously pumped as the premiere opened with 4 million views in four days and claimed a spot on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 charts.
With such a star-studded season, this feels like the perfect note to end on, and had the ratings not impressed, that likely would have been the case. What We Thought of AHS: 13
Our own Alex Maidy wasn’t a big fan of the new season, at least of the first three episodes he watched. “I’m all in for a really good scary story, even one that may not be terrifying if it can manage to be fun and original. American Horror Story 13 is neither of those things,” he wrote. “It’s hard to watch this show and not feel like you’ve been there and done that, with even the character design and the jump scares feeling like repeats of things we’ve seen in the 12 prior seasons. As much as I enjoy seeing Jessica Lange back in a major role, as well as Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters doing what they do best, this season of American Horror Story doesn’t feel as much like a greatest hits as it does a farewell tour.“
