Keanu Reeves in talks to star in James Wan’s The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil remake

THR reports that Keanu Reeves is in talks to star in The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, James Wan’s upcoming reimagining of the 2019 Korean movie of the same name. This will be Wan’s first feature film since Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which was released in 2023.

What’s it All About?

The original movie is a Korean film directed by Lee Won-tae, which was released in 2019. It follows a “police officer and a crime boss who reluctantly team-up to track down a serial killer. With each having their own motives to capture the killer, double-crosses and cat-and-mouse games ensue, along with a heaping helping of police versus criminals and gang versus gang action.“

The film starred Don Lee, best known for his breakthrough performance in Train to Busan, as the gangster. In an interesting twist, Lee will be reprising his role for this new version. I assume Reeves would be playing the police officer.

Eric Pearson (Fantastic Four: First Steps) has written the latest script, with previous drafts penned by Shat Hatten (Resident Evil) and Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential). Wan will produce through his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner, along with Michael Clear anr Jason Blum.

Additionally, Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller will produce via Balboa Productions, as well as Don Lee via Big Punch Global, Chris S. Lee of B&C Group, Jang Won-seok of BA Entertainment, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

What’s Next for Keanu Reeves

Reeves has a number of projects on his slate, including a time-loop movie directed by Deadpool‘s Tim Miller. Described as having shades of Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow and Blake Lively’s The Shallows, the film follows a “smuggler (Reeves) trapped in a time loop after a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in him surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries and thirsty sharks alike.“

He’s also set to return to voice Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which will hit theaters on March 19, 2027. There’s also BRZRKR, the live-action action flick based on the comic of the same name co-created by Reeves. That project is set up at Netflix.
