Quentin Tarantino Surprises AFI Fest Crowd with 17 Minutes of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth

Excitement for David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the official standalone sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is reaching a fever pitch in the lead-up to its release—and now audiences have gotten their very first taste of what’s to come!

A Midnight Surprise in Hollywood

During a Q&A screening of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Friday night at AFI Fest in Los Angeles, Tarantino surprised the unsuspecting crowd with the first 17 minutes of Fincher’s upcoming film. The surprise event marks the very first time the public has seen footage from the anticipated sequel, which sees Brad Pitt return as everyone’s favorite, ultra-smooth stuntman.

“Well, I could talk a little bit about The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, or I could show you the first 17 minutes,” Tarantino teased at the end of his special-event Q&A session at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre. The crowd immediately roared, eager to be among the first to glimpse footage from the star-studded thriller. Alongside Pitt, the film features an electric ensemble cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian.

Fixing Problems, Sunset Style

The newly unveiled logline sets the stage for a gritty, retro ride: Los Angeles no longer needs a hippie-slaying stuntman the way it did. But Hollywood will always have problems—problems that can only be solved by someone with Cliff’s unique (and occasionally extralegal) abilities. When he’s not earning his keep bartending or working as a projectionist, Cliff Booth is a fixer, solving sticky situations for Hollywood’s great and, sometimes, not so good.

Tarantino Takes the Stage

While Fincher takes the directorial reins on Cliff Booth’s cinematic journey, Tarantino hasn’t stepped away from telling stories on a stage. In fact, the auteur writer-director is making his grand West End theatrical debut with his upcoming original stage play, The Popinjay Cavalier. Set in 1830s Europe, the swashbuckling farce stars Sacha Baron Cohen as a disgraced actor caught in a web of disguise and deception. Between Cliff Booth’s fixes and Tarantino’s London theater endeavor, fans of this cinematic universe have plenty to look forward to!
